Biography

Christoph Trauernicht
University of Cape Town, South Africa

Chris is a deputy manager in the medical physics department at Groote Schuur Hospital. This is a joint appointment with the University of Cape Town. He has been employed at Groote Schuur Hospital since 2008.

He is registered as a medical physicist with the HPCSA. Chris is also a member of the South African Association of Physicists in Medicine and Biology (SAAPMB), the South African Medical Physicist Society (SAMPS) and the South African Radiation Protection Society (SARPS). He was elected into the executive committee of the South African Radiation Protection Society in 2009 and elected as chairperson from 2010 - 2014; currently he serves as the secretary of SARPS. In addition, he was an extraordinary member of SAAPMB council from 2010-2014 and is an elected council member since 2014.

Chris is the national project counterpart for an IAEA project (RAF6048: Strengthening Medical Physicists' Capacities to Ensure Safety in Medical Imaging, with an Emphasis on Paediatric Imaging Safety) which is a five year project that started in 2014. From 2010 - 2014 he was IAEA project counterpart for the nuclear medicine project RAF6038: Promoting Regional and National Quality Assurance Programmes for Medical Physics in Nuclear Medicine.

Chris is author or co-author on over 50 conference presentations, a number of those in international conferences. He has four published papers with two more submitted for publication, 11 published congress abstracts as well as two accepted book chapters.
